HUNNIC TRIBES, Western Turks. Yabghu of the Bactrians, circa 650-700. Drachm (Silver, 30 mm, 3.84 g, 8 h), LHW (Rukhaj/Arachosia), RY 10. Draped Sasanian-style bust to right, wearing an elaborate winged crown topped by buffalo’s head; behind head, ‘nyck MLKA’ = ‘Nēzak šāh’ (‘Nezak King’ in Pahlavi); before head, ‘ybgw bhlkʾn’ = ‘Yabgū Baxlagān’ (‘Yabghu of the Bactrians’ in Pahlavi); in the outer margins, three tamghas in crescents. Rev. Fire altar with ribbons, flanked by two attendants; above altar, star and crescent; to left, date in Pahlavi; to right, ‘LHW’ (abbreviation for the name of the mint in Pahlavi). Vondrovec, Type 265. Minor doubling and with some deposits and scratches, otherwise, very fine.
